Barn Hunt Introduction – 4-week class

Prerequisites:

  • No people aggressive dogs

This class is for dogs new to the sport of Barn Hunt.

Week 1 begins with Meet the Rat.  In week 2, you will work on Instinct; this is where the dogs learn to identify the rat tube mounted on a board.  Teams will work in a ring environment.  Weeks 3 and 4 will concentrate on Novice level hides and skills.  At the end of this 4-week class, your dog should be prepared to enter a trial at the Instinct level and possibly novice.

Meet the RAT!

Prerequisites:

  • No people aggressive dogs

Meet the Rat is your opportunity to test your dog’s drive and interest in Barn Hunt. Dogs will meet the rat in carefully controlled conditions.

Hay will be available for your dog to see, smell and touch. This is to encourage them to become familiar with a new surface.

The first introduction will be in a wire cage so your dog can see movement and smell the rat. The second introduction will be made using a clear tube, so your dog can still see the rat. The third will be an actual Barn Hunt tube, where they can no longer see the rat, and must focus on smell and sound.

No testing will be done.
