Flyball is a noisy, fast-paced team sport. Flyball is a relay race played by teams of four dogs (and their people) each. Each dog on the team must jump hurdles, trigger a box to get a ball, then jump the hurdles again to bring that ball back to their handlers. Flyball is a sport of speed, accuracy, and teamwork. All sizes, breeds, and mixes of breeds are welcome in flyball – dogs just need to be physically and mentally fit able to safely learn and perform the behaviors required to play the game.
Introduction to Flyball
Prerequisites: Puppy Manners, S.T.A.R. Puppy, or Basic Obedience or Instructor approval.
This 4 week class introduces the behaviors that go into playing flyball – also valuable for increasing drive and confidence for any sport, as well as working with distractions. Provides good foundation behaviors for any sport you want to play with your dog. Dogs and handlers will learn to do these behaviors alone, with another dog working in the other lane, and with another dog working in the same lane.
Intermediate Flyball
Prerequisites: Intro to Flyball and Basic Obedience or Instructor approval.
In Intermediate Flyball (4 weeks), dogs and handlers continue to develop the skills they learned in Introduction to Flyball, working toward readiness for participation on a flyball team and competing in tournaments. Although instruction is still individualized to what each dog and handler needs to work on, cooperation and working together with other dogs and handlers are also a part of the curriculum in this class.
